The Haunted Roommate

Today's story comes from Quora user "Old Man Harker", a self-proclaimed skeptic of the supernatural until one day while living in Los Angeles a co-worker asked him if he would like to be her roommate due to her current roommate relocating to New York.

Harker recounted that his co-worker and her friends were more than mildly attractive, and, being a red-blooded American male he immediately accepted the invitation. However the new living situation came with a disturbing twist; something supernatural was stalking the outgoing roommate...

Her move to New York had been postponed, so when the day came for Harker to move in he was given the option of sleeping on a very uncomfortable couch. But being the sort of man he was, he sucked it up and stoically took to the new sleeping arrangement. But as if the lack of a bed wasn't enough the roommate informed him that weird things would sometimes happen in the apartment. She explained that sometimes doors would slam, drawers would mysteriously open by themselves, but Harker just blew it off.

That is, until what happened that night, as he tried to find comfort on the unforgiving sofa he caught sight of a large male figure stepping into the hallway from the corner of his eye. When he turned to take in the sight, the man was suddenly missing from view.

The encounters however did not stop there. Harker recalls how his baseball cap, which he placed upon his entertainment unit, would frequently get knocked from its place by no apparent source. The lights would flicker. But perhaps the most unusual occurrence took place when, while watching a movie one night, there suddenly came the sound of ringing as if from an old rotary phone, except the ringing wasn't coming from the movie but rather from a pile of books the roommate had stacked against the wall...

The day of departure for the outgoing roommate arrived and as people gathered for her farewell party there seemed to be a bad energy in the air. About 10 people had gathered but everyone remained quiet until suddenly all four ceiling lights exploded, causing a quick end to the party as everyone called it quits for the evening.

What makes all of these events most interesting however is that after the roommate had finally left, all of the crazy occurrences ceased, leaving one to wonder if she was the one that was haunted? What was so unique about the roommate that made this entity lose interest in Harker's new abode? Did she do something to encourage the evil spirit to torment her? Was she the victim of a demonic oppression?
